History

The Schumacher Institute for Sustainable Systems (SISS) was formed by the Schumacher Society UK. The Society promotes the wisdom and insights of E. F. Schumacher and has run its world famous lectures for over 30 years, contributing greatly to the many critical environmental and social issues that we face.

The recognition of the need for a think tank that applied a whole systems approach to today’s challenges, grew from the Society's work and led to the formation of SISS in 2005.

The Schumacher Centre Ltd. is the legal organisation and is a registered charity (No. 1144674).
